Do “never dull” knives really stay sharp forever?

Simply put, no. These kinds of knives are serrated and can become worn down and bent over time. A serrated knife can still cut dull but tends to tear.

Is it bad luck to give a knife as a gift to a friend?

If you believe this you are ubber superstitious. NO

Do knives wear their edges away when they get dull?

Nope. Instead the edge folds over on itself. It does not chip away.

Are electric sharpeners bad for knives?

That used to be true back in the day, but nowadays there are some precision sharpeners that can make the blade perfectly symmetrical. Avoid the sharpeners on the back of can openers though.
